There are more than 7,700 species of flies in Australia, one of the most common being the housefly (Musca domestica). Flies live for up to three weeks and are particularly active in warmer weather. How to Keep Flies Away
There are some simple things that everyone can do to keep flies out of homes and businesses, most relate to reducing the availability of suitable breeding sites.
- Ensure proper disposal of organic matter including coffee grounds, reducing the places where houseflies lay eggs
- Place rubbish in garbage bags and tie securely, and cleaning rubbish bins regularly
- Keep windows screened
- In food-handling premises, place air curtains/exhaust(blower) systems above doors
- Install doors that open and close mechanically
